About The Artist

Marissa, to many, but Azaria to her family and close friends; a name often mispronounced
(A-zah-ry-ah) but means “helped by God.” A multidisciplinary artist of Guyanese heritage, she has been creating since the age of four. With deep roots in the themes of love, identity, culture, heritage, resilience and empowerment, Azaria draws inspiration from her faith and boundless love for God. Art has always been her way of making sense of the world — capturing emotions, moments and the quiet beauty that often goes unnoticed. Known for her detailed portraitures, Azaria has a strong command for illustrating human expression, and her current work involves personal explorations of storytelling through colour, texture and meaning. Her art mediums include graphite, coloured pencils, charcoal, fabric paint, acrylic paint, sculpture and mixed media. In recent years, her creative process has expanded into digital drawings and poetry, as additional outlets for expression. At the heart of her journey is the desire to create art that uplifts, inspires and speaks to the soul.
